Joseph, The Hated Big Dreamer

Joseph, The Hated Big Dreamer

Joseph
Big Dreaming Joseph

Joseph was a big dreamer, but hated by his brothers. He was born to Jacob in his old age from Rachel, the wife he spent 14 years of labor to try to get. Jacob(who God called Israel) loved Joseph more than his other sons. It says so right in the Bible!

“Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. So one day Jacob had a special gift made for Joseph—a beautiful robe.
-Genesis‬ ‭37:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Talk about picking favorites, ha. This caused his brother to be very envious of him. What didn’t help was that Jacob was a big dreamer. He literally would have dreams about how his brothers and parents would one day be ruled by Him. His brothers became so jealous of him that one day they plotted to kill him.

In the mix of plotting, Reuben convinced his brothers to not kill him but to leave him in a cistern to die, so their hands would be clean of his blood. He planned on coming back for him when his brothers were gone to save him and return him to Jacob. But when Reuben left, his brothers decided to not kill Jacob but to sell him into slavery for 20 pieces of silver. They then took Joseph’s special coat, dipped it in blood and showed it to their father. They told him he was eaten by wild animals. This caused great sorrow for Jacob for a very long time.

Joseph’s Long Story Short

Joseph is eventually sold to an officer of the Pharaoh of Egypt and remains faithful to God as a slave. God then blessed Joseph with wisdom and a gift to be able to interpret dreams while a slave. This later helps him become second in command to Pharaoh, ruling over all of Egypt.

During a great famine, Joseph’s family is forced to go to Egypt where they bow before Joseph, who they don’t recognize, and he later reveals himself to them. His whole family then moves to Egypt to live under his rule and care.

Crazy how God works. Joseph remained faithful to God and God blessed him greatly. Maybe you are in a place in your life where you feel like a slave to something or someone. Stay faithful to God and He will bless you.

Y’all have a blessed one!
